Land’s End Credit Card Review

As the name implies, the Land’s End credit card is a credit card specifically designed to appeal to people who shop at Land’s End regularly. If that describes you, then it is certainly worth considering applying for the card.

It is important to note that there are technically two Land’s End credit cards. One is simply called the Land’s End Credit Card. However, most people who mention a store credit card will be referring to the Land’s End Visa Credit Card, as it has more benefits. Both are issued by Comenity Capital Bank.

Land’s End Credit Card Rewards

One of the biggest draws of the Land’s End credit card is the long list of rewards that it entitles you to.

50% Off Your First Purchase

It is common for store credit cards to offer discounts on your first purchase, but the one from Land’s End is especially good. You get 50% off of your first purchase using it on the Land’s End website when opening your account. While you can’t combine this with any other promotions, it does apply to every item. In other words, you can use this discount even on items that are on sale or clearance.

Points and Reward Certificates

With either credit card, you will get a $5 certificate for every 500 points that you earn. You get 5 points for every dollar you spend at Land’s End. This also applies to the brand’s website.

The Land’s End Visa Credit Card is the more popular choice, as it always gives you rewards on other purchases. You earn 2 points for every dollar you spend on qualifying purchases at restaurants, travel, or gas stations. You also get 1 point for every dollar you spend anywhere else.

For reference, travel includes most travel-related expenses you can think of. It specifically includes resorts, motels, hotels, airlines, car rentals, and cruise lines.

Free Shipping on Online Orders

Whenever you place an order online from the Land’s End website, you will get free standard shipping when you use your store credit card to make the purchase.

Birthday Deals

Having this credit card also gives you a nice birthday perk. If you spend at least $100 on one purchase in your birthday month, you get $50 off. Conveniently, it applies to both purchases you make in physical Land’s End stores as well as those you make via the company’s website.

Certificate After Initial Purchase

You also get a reward certificate to encourage you to use your Land’s End Visa Credit Card. Cardholders receive a $20 certificate when they make a purchase from anywhere but Land’s End within 60 days of opening their accounts.

Priority Customer Service

Another perk for cardholders of the Land’s End credit card is that you get priority customer service when you receive phone support.

Land’s Credit Card Vs. Land’s End Visa

The following outlines the key differences between the two Land’s End card options; each includes a list of which rewards you are eligible for.

Land’s End Credit Card

This card includes the following rewards, as described above:

  • $5 reward certificate for every 500 points earned
  • 5 points per $1 spent at Land’s End (online or in-store)
  • Free standard shipping on all online purchases
  • 50% off first purchase
  • $50 off a purchase of $100 or more in your birthday month

Land’s End Visa

This card includes every single one of the rewards described in the previous section. This means you are eligible for all the rewards of the Land’s End Credit Card, plus:

  • 2 points per $1 spent on travel, restaurants, and gas stations
  • 1 point per $1 spent anywhere else
  • Accepted everywhere Visa is accepted
  • $20 reward certificate after first purchase outside of Land’s End within 60 days of account opening

The Rewards Have Some Important Restrictions

It is nice that the Land’s End Visa Credit Card gives you rewards on all of your purchases, not just those from the retailer. But there are a few important caveats in terms of redemption.

Where You Can Use Them

You’ll notice that we called the rewards “certificates.” This is because you can only use the rewards on purchases from Land’s End. That being said, your purchases can be online, in-store, or via the catalog.

They must also be “eligible” purchases, although the restrictions for eligibility are not likely to cause you issues.

The biggest restriction is that you can’t combine your reward certificates with any other offers or discounts.

The Minimum and the Maximum

You need to keep in mind that Land’s End’s rewards have both a minimum to receive them and a maximum that you can receive at once.

The minimum is when you earn 500 points. Remember that 500 points will give you a $5 certificate. On the other end of the spectrum, you cannot get more than $500 in reward certificates in a billing cycle.

Points and Certificates Expire

Land’s End points are good for one year. They expire 12 months after they get posted to your account. Once you are issued a reward certificate, you have 60 days from the issue date to use it.

How They Work – Automatic Redemption

One unique feature of the Land’s End rewards is that they have automatic redemption. This has the advantage of ensuring you don’t forget to use them. But it also prevents you from hoarding them for a future purchase.

The automatic redemption is incredibly straightforward. You receive the rewards in the billing cycle that you earn them.

Rewards Are All or Nothing

When it comes time to redeem your Land’s End reward certificate, make sure to spend the entire thing at once. If your certificate is worth more than what you buy, the balance disappears. You forfeit it.

Because of this all-or-nothing approach, the fact that rewards are automatically redeemed is very useful. After all, it is much easier to use an entire $5 or $10 certificate than it is to use an entire $100 or $500 one.

Be Aware of the High Interest Rate

Credit cards come with a wide range of interest rates, but the Land’s End Credit Card tends to be on the higher end of the spectrum. As expected, your interest rate will depend on your credit score, but it can be over 25%. The most recent figures say that the APR ranges from 18.49% to 25.74%.

Because of the high interest rate, you want to avoid ever carrying a balance on this card. It is best to only use it for purchases that you know you will be able to pay off.

No Low Introductory APR

Not only is the interest rate high with this card, but it is high right from the start. Some cards offer introductory APRs of 0% or a slightly higher but still low figure.

In other words, you must remember that there is no grace period for your APR or late payments.

There Is No Annual Fee

While the interest rate on the Land’s End card is high, the company makes up for this by not charging an annual fee.

This makes it a way to earn rewards without an annual fee. Just remember that, unlike cards that offer cash back, your rewards will come in the form of certificates that you can only use at Land’s End.

Other Fees

This credit card doesn’t charge an annual fee, but there are other fees, most of which are expected from any credit card.

For example, if you want a cash advance or to do a balance transfer, you will pay either 5% or $10, whichever is larger. Don’t forget to factor in the balance transfer APR of 26.99%. The cash advance APR is 26.74% but variable.

There is also a 3% foreign transaction fee. You will also have to watch out for returned or late payments fees. Either of these can be up to $41.

Land’s End Credit Card Application

The requirements to get a Land’s End credit card are fairly basic. There is no official credit score requirement. That being said, the card is subject to credit approval.

Instead, you just need to be a legal adult with a valid, government-issued photo ID. You also need a U.S. social security number and mailing address. You can apply for the credit card online in a matter of minutes.

You Can Use the Card the Same Day – In Some Cases

If you decide to get your Land’s End Visa Credit Card online, then you will be able to use it as soon as you are approved. The card will simply be applied to the order that you are currently checking out on the website.

But if you don’t have an order in progress, you will have to wait for your physical card to arrive to use it.

You also need to wait for a physical credit card to start using it at stores, including Land’s End stores.

Conclusion

If you regularly shop at Land’s End, then the store’s credit card or Visa credit card can be a great way to earn rewards. There is no annual fee, but the interest rate is high, so you don’t want to carry a balance. You also can only spend the rewards at Land’s End. This means that people who regularly spend a lot with the brand may want to consider the card. Anyone else would be better off looking for a different credit card.
