Spectrum Care Levels

Residents of Spectrum Retirement Communities can choose from three levels of care. Independent living is ideal if you are retired and simply want a quiet, stress-free lifestyle. Assisted living provides an environment for residents to thrive along with customized care. Memory care gives residents the support they need to maximize and extend their abilities and interests.

Independent Living

Spectrum's housing options for independent living vary from studios to two-bedroom units. Independent living is ideal for those who don't need any extra care but want the convenience of being in a community with other seniors. It is also incredibly easy for residents to move from independent living to memory care or assisted living in the future if they need to.

These communities are a "home base" for seniors to regularly enjoy recreational activities by themselves or with other residents. While you are fully independent, you get full access to community rooms and the on-site restaurant. There are also plenty of activities to keep residents busy, which is beneficial to seniors who want to keep themselves fully occupied during the day.

Every independent living resident gets access to:

  • 24-hour staffing
  • 24-hour emergency response systems
  • Daily activities
  • All utilities (except personal Wi-Fi and phone)
  • Apartment maintenance
  • Bi-weekly housekeeping
  • Resident dining
  • Scheduled transportation

Assisted Living

As with independent living, you can choose from two bedrooms, one bedroom, or studios.

Assisted living from Spectrum is the ideal solution if you want some freedom but need a little bit of help and care to get through the day. The care is customized to fit your needs, so you can get all the care you need while still maintaining as much independence as possible.

Part of that independence comes from the fact that you still get plenty of choices, even with assisted living. You get to decide what activities to participate in and more. You can join a book club or do some volunteering, for instance.

The services included in assisted living are very similar to those in independent living, but with some extras. Like with independent living, you get:

  • 24-hour staffing
  • 24-hour emergency response system
  • Apartment maintenance
  • Scheduled transportation
  • Daily activities
  • All utilities (except personal Wi-Fi and phone)

However, with assisted living, housekeeping is done on a weekly schedule. You also get three nutritious meals prepared by a chef every day, giving you one less thing to worry about.

Memory Care

For memory care patients, Spectrum follows a Montessori-based philosophy. This involves fostering and developing a true community for both the residents with dementia as well as their families. Throughout the care, Spectrum encourages, maximizes, and nurtures residents' abilities, preferences, and interests.

Experiences in memory care are fully customized, so residents get to do things that are familiar and comfortable yet enriching. This can include virtual reality trips, simple homemaking tasks, and everything in between. Spectrum prides itself on letting the adventures continue even if there is cognitive impairment.

The basic services and amenities included in memory care are identical to those in assisted living, including:

  • 24-hour staffing
  • 24-hour emergency response team
  • Apartment maintenance
  • Weekly housekeeping
  • Scheduled transportation
  • Daily activities
  • All utilities (except personal Wi-Fi and phones)
  • Three chef-prepared, nutritious meals every day

How To Determine The Level Of Care You Need

Spectrum understands that it can be tough to decide on the level of care that you need. That is why their team will gladly talk to you about the various options. They can also answer your questions as you decide on a level of care and community.

Spectrum uses the St. Louis University Mental Status Exam (SLUMS). This is a screening questionnaire with 11 questions, and it is used to test neurocognitive impairment. If Spectrum's team notices mild dementia, this may just be a natural result of aging. By contrast, patients with more severe dementia may do best in memory care.

The goal of Spectrum is to always ensure residents receive the appropriate level of care in a location and environment that lets them live life fully.

Resident-Focused Care

Regardless of the level of care a resident has, the care and services they receive are fully customized based on what they need and want. Spectrum works to ensure residents don't have to give up their favorite hobbies or worry about staying in touch with friends or family. They strive to give all residents a fulfilling and rewarding lifestyle. This includes regularly hosting activities and events for residents.

Spectrum Collaborations

With all levels of care, residents get to take advantage of Spectrum's partnerships with collaborators. This is part of its efforts to bring residents cutting-edge tech, health and care partners, and food.
